USDA INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (IT) RESTRICTED SPACE
This Departmental Manual establishes policy and procedures for physical security standards within Information Technology (IT) Restricted Space. This refers to special use space in USDA facilities that house web farms, computer or telecommunications equipment/devices and the general security employed surrounding these areas. This policy and guidance represents minimum physical security standards for all IT Restricted Space in USDA. Cyber Security (CS) does not have direct responsibility for the control of physical security in USDA facilities. However, CS is responsible for security of the critical IT Infrastructure resident in these facilities. In order to meet the regulatory requirements for the infrastructure outlined below, we are publishing this policy and guidance.
Part 1 identifies procedures for controlling and securing all IT Restricted Space, which can include by are not limited to, Computing Facilities, Web Farms, Telecommunications/Magnetic Media Rooms, Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities (SCIF), and Isolation Zones. It also establishes a requirement for formal coordination with Cyber Security concerning the design and construction of all new IT Restricted Space in USDA.
This Departmental Manual will be in effect until superseded.
