Two exceptional individuals have been honored by their peers as NITC Employees of the Year.
Larry Hulse started his data processing career in 1961 working as an electric accounting machine operator for the U. S. Navy. In July 1966 while serving in Vietnam with the U. S. Army, he started his computer programming on a Univac 1005, which had 3845 bytes of memory, no tape or disk drives, but a printer, card reader and card punch. He also worked with Data Base Management Systems in 1976, and later was president and vice-president of ASTUTE (Association of System 2000 Users for Technical Exchange). He graduated from college as a member of Phi Kappa Phi with a BA in Psychology. In his current role as a database systems analyst and programmer, he supports the federal GSA Billing Project using the Oracle Data Base Management System. In the recent past Larry has been instrumental in analyzing and processing, large, complex, often historical data sources and in developing processes to abstract and manipulate the data. This resulted in exemplary work on the GSA data warehouse project. Currently he is considered the expert on producing ad hoc reports for the GSA Billing System. His analysis of data and tables, and his frequent, thoughtful interaction with customers to define their detailed requirements has resulted in his creation of hundreds of significant reports for his customers.
Larry's coworkers have noted that he has an upbeat, positive attitude in his work ethic, that he has participated fully as a member of several NITC committees, and that he is generous with his time and expertise in helping others solve problems associated with his project as well as with the general IBM mainframe environment.

Ron Jones began his career in 1972 working for E. E. Stuesey Co. of Austin, Texas installing underground cabling for Southwestern Bell, street lights, public utilities and erecting high voltage electrical towers. Ron served in the Air Force (1974-1982) as a fuels technician, Aviation Fuels Testing and Liquid Fuels Maintenance. After his discharge from the Air Force, Ron was working for the Air Force Reserves at Richards Gebaur Air Force Base in Kansas City, Missouri. He gained valuable experience as the Contract Officer's technical representative for the Real Property Maintenance Contract, which included 60 buildings and flight line operations, and was the construction inspector for major building renovations. Ron went to work for the Bureau of Prisons in 1991 as a Civil Engineering Technician and General Foreman. He managed inmate construction and maintenance crews building firing ranges, renovation of facilities, and construction on the training centers. In 1996, Ron went to work as a Civil Engineering Technician for the Marine Corps. He designed, provided cost estimates, drawings, handled negotiations and inspections of building renovations, site improvements, asbestos abatement, and new construction. While serving as Energy Manager, Ron was instrumental in negotiating and implementing a contract that saved approximately 30 percent in energy usage. Ron started working for the National Information Technology Center in 2000 as our Building Manager. A major milestone in Ron's current position was the renovation of NITC's new office space that began in April 1999. He was responsible for relocating employees during the various phases of renovation. Ron coordinated with all contractors and is our liaison with GSA.
Ron is very willing to assist with requests, go the extra mile, and continue to have a great attitude towards his job and people. He is very helpful and works extra hours to maintain and support the working environment for NITC KC. Ron exemplifies tenacity and leadership on performing his tasks, especially coordinating and working with vendors, contractors, and satisfying many requests from fellow employees. Ron truly is an exceptional individual and makes the NITC KC a better place to work.
