Burks
Associate Chief Information Officer,
Cyber and Privacy Policy and Oversight
Valarie Burks was appointed the Associate Chief Information
Officer for Cyber and Privacy Policy and Oversight in May
2009. Ms. Burks is responsible for providing leadership and
strategic direction for Information Technology Policy, Cyber
Security Policy, Security Compliance, Awareness, and Privacy
for USDA's information technology program.
Ms. Burks served as Director for USDA's
Washington Communications and Technology Services Division
since February 2005. Prior to that appointment, she served
as Director for the USDA Universal Telecommunications Network
(UTN) program. Ms. Burks began her Federal service as an Auditor/Computer
Scientist with the Government Accountability Office in 1989.
She has more than 20 years of experience leading IT organizations
in the Federal and private sector.
Ms. Burks received her Bachelor of Science
Degree in Computer Science from the University of Maryland,
Baltimore County. She also received her Master of Science
Degree in Computer Systems Management from the University
of Maryland, University College. In August 2008, Ms. Burks
completed the Key Executive Leadership Certificate Program
at American University.
